What does a merchant lead mean for an independent agent?

A merchant lead is an inquiry you qualify for a potential payment-processing relationship. It is not a live transfer, booked appointment, inbound call or pay-per-call purchase. You still need to reach the merchant, confirm their needs, assess processor fit and move a qualified opportunity toward an application.

As a solo agent, you own every handoff. A promising conversation can stall if you cannot review the statement or return a call promptly. We recommend sizing purchases around the full workload: initial outreach, discovery, statement collection, analysis and scheduled follow-up. An inquiry is useful only when you have room to work it.

How do our campaigns capture inquiries and disclose consent?

Our own paid Facebook and Google campaigns display a consent disclosure naming MerchantCardLeads and partner payment-processing providers:

“By submitting, you agree that MerchantCardLeads and its partner payment-processing providers may contact you by phone, text and email about merchant services, including via automated technology. Consent is not a condition of purchase.”

New campaign leads carry the captured consent text, timestamp and source page in dashboard, email and webhook delivery. Review that evidence before outreach, particularly if you plan to use automated tools rather than personal calls.

You are responsible for TCPA and DNC rules in your own outreach. Do not treat an aged purchase as renewed consent or assume older inquiries carry the same evidence as new campaign leads. Your opt-in to buyer SMS alerts is separate from a merchant’s consent.

What do shared, exclusive and aged leads cost a solo agent?

Our shared leads cost $25 and can be sold to up to three buyers. Exclusive leads cost $45. Fresh exclusivity does not prohibit later disclosed aged resale, so choose the option for your current sales process rather than assuming permanent exclusivity.

Our aged pricing is $6 for 1–30 days, $3 for 31–90 days, $1.50 for 91–180 days and $0.75 for 180+ days. The minimum aged order is 25 leads. Pricing can vary for high-risk or high-volume leads.

For a small budget, the lowest unit price is not automatically the best purchase. Older inquiries need careful requalification, and a large queue competes with active merchant conversations. Buy the quantity you can contact and revisit, not the largest quantity your balance allows.

Which filters help you stay inside a serviceable territory?

Start with geography, industry and processing-volume criteria when choosing filters. If you visit merchants, keep your territory tight enough that travel does not consume your statement-review hours. If you sell remotely, consider time zones and when you can reliably answer return calls.

Next, align the industry and volume range with the processing relationships you can support. A merchant outside your processor appetite can require substantial work without creating a suitable application opportunity. Do not widen your criteria simply to fill a larger purchase.

Use filtering to reduce avoidable mismatch, not to replace discovery. Confirm the merchant’s location, business model, current processing arrangement and practical needs directly; do not assume every merchant detail will be available before contact.

How should you qualify merchants and retain follow-up ownership?

Reserve outreach blocks before you buy, then keep a separate block for statement review. During the first conversation, confirm who makes the processing decision, why the merchant is considering a change, approximate volume, current equipment and timing. Establish whether your processor relationships support the business before preparing a proposal.

Ask for a recent processing statement through an appropriate secure route. Review effective cost, transaction mix, recurring fees and operational requirements before discussing a specific offer. A rate conversation alone may overlook equipment replacement or gateway needs.

Give each inquiry one next action and a due date. Record whether you are awaiting a statement, preparing a comparison or arranging another call. If overdue follow-ups accumulate, pause purchasing until you can serve the opportunities already in progress.

Which independent delivery channels suit a one-person sales process?

Choose delivery around where you actually work. Our dashboard supports direct review, email fits an inbox-led routine, and webhook delivery supports routing into your sales tools. You do not need an elaborate CRM workflow to begin, but you do need one consistent place to track status and next actions.

Treat each delivery channel as a route to the same inquiry, not as a separate sales task. If you use both email and a webhook, avoid creating duplicate outreach reminders. Review the captured consent information alongside the inquiry rather than separating it from your working notes.

Buyer SMS alerts are notifications for you. Opting into them is separate from permission for your outreach to merchants.

What can you return, and what should you inspect promptly?

Our return window is 72 hours. Inspect incoming purchases promptly so a potential issue does not sit unnoticed while you are visiting merchants or preparing proposals. For aged leads, the eligible return reason is a bad phone number.

Keep sales qualification separate from return eligibility. A merchant declining a conversation, delaying a decision or failing to fit your preferred processor is not the same as a bad phone number. Do not budget as though an unsuccessful sales outcome automatically produces a credit.

For a solo agent, timely inspection belongs on the calendar alongside outreach. A smaller, manageable purchase makes it easier to review inquiries while preserving time for merchants who are ready to discuss their statements.

How can you model residual economics without treating assumptions as results?

Use this explicitly hypothetical calculation: 100 leads × 5% assumed close rate × $100 assumed monthly residual = $500 in monthly residual. At our confirmed shared price of $25, purchasing 100 shared leads costs $2,500.

Annualizing the assumed $500 monthly residual over 12 months produces $6,000, assuming every account remains active throughout that period. This arithmetic excludes attrition, costs other than the stated lead purchase, processing approvals, time to activation and commissions. It is not a net-profit calculation.

These are editable assumptions, not results or forecasts. The example is also not a recommendation to buy 100 inquiries at once. Your actual buying pace should reflect available appointment capacity and follow-up time, even when a hypothetical spreadsheet appears attractive.

How do you start without a contract or an oversized queue?

Our Starter pack is $250, Growth is $500 and Scale is $1,000; custom packs start at $250. There are no contracts, and you can pause anytime. Choose your starting budget only after deciding how many inquiries you can work alongside existing accounts.

Begin with a narrow territory, supported industries and a clear volume range. Select shared, exclusive or aged leads, choose delivery, and reserve time for first contact and statement analysis. Review your outstanding tasks before adding another purchase.

If your wallet is small, protect both cash and attention: avoid spending the entire budget on inquiries that will wait untouched. For help planning a manageable start, contact our founder, Chad Buchanan, at (248) 686-6955.

What could a lead campaign return?

Hypothetical assumptions, not a forecast or platform results.

    Lead cost
    $2,500.00
    Expected accounts
    ≈ 5.0
    Monthly residual
    ≈ $500.00
    First-year net before other costs
    ≈ $3,500.00

100 leads × 5% assumed close rate × $100.00 monthly residual. Lead cost uses $25.00 per shared lead. Annual example assumes 12 months of active accounts; excludes attrition, implementation, commissions, other costs and time to activation. No approval or close-rate guarantee.

What should you know before contacting a merchant?

Our campaigns capture merchant inquiries with a disclosure naming MerchantCardLeads and partner payment-processing providers. New campaign leads include the captured consent text, timestamp and source page in your dashboard, email and webhook delivery. You are responsible for following TCPA and DNC rules in your own outreach.

By submitting, you agree that MerchantCardLeads and its partner payment-processing providers may contact you by phone, text and email about merchant services, including via automated technology. Consent is not a condition of purchase.

Buyer SMS alerts use a separate opt-in: “I agree to receive automated lead-alert text messages from MerchantCardLeads at this number. Msg frequency varies. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. Consent is not a condition of purchase.”

    No contracts. Pause anytime.

Real-time return requests: within 72 hours. Approved returns become wallet credits; “already has a processor” is not a valid return reason. Aged returns: bad phone only.

What else do payments reps ask?

Should I buy more inquiries if I only have two appointment slots open?

Keep purchases aligned with your remaining capacity. Appointment slots are only part of the workload; allow time for outreach, statement analysis and callbacks. We recommend pausing before new inquiries displace follow-up on active opportunities.

Does the $250 Starter pack mean every lead costs the same?

No. The pack amount is separate from per-lead pricing. Our shared leads cost $25, exclusive leads cost $45, and aged pricing varies by age band, starting at $0.75. High-risk or high-volume pricing can vary.

Can I put aged inquiries straight into an automated texting sequence?

Do not treat purchase as renewed consent. Review the consent evidence and determine whether your intended outreach is appropriate under TCPA and DNC rules. You remain responsible for your calling and messaging practices.

How should I organize delivery if I work from email rather than a CRM?

Use email delivery with one tracking routine for status, next action and due date. Reserve daily review time, keep consent evidence accessible, and avoid treating dashboard access and an email notification as two separate inquiries.
